SEC Filing Tracker

Description

A Python standard-library keyword tracker using the SEC EDGAR full-text search endpoint without an API key. Filter by form type and date, normalize filer names, tickers, CIKs, filing dates and accession numbers, and return links to source filings plus a form histogram. Bundled offline fixtures exercise the same normalization pipeline, while source failures are reported explicitly in sources_status.

Usage and examples

Provide the keyword query and optional form/date filters.
Run sec_filing_tracker.py with the JSON input.
Check sources_status before interpreting the result count.
Follow the filing links and read the original disclosures.

Requirements and limitations

Prerequisites

Python 3
Internet access for live searches; bundled fixtures work offline
Respect SEC fair-access requirements and use a descriptive contact User-Agent

Known limitations

Returns filing metadata, not XBRL financial metrics or automated investment analysis.
Not investment advice or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold a security.
One source and one response page per run; at most 100 requested results, not exhaustive pagination.
Live availability depends on SEC access controls and rate limits.
Normal and degraded offline fixtures passed repeatability tests; no live-source acceptance test was performed for this release.
